Epiroc Boltec M Rock Bolting Rig Specification and Features

Making Mining Safe — A Fully Mechanized Rock Bolting Rig

Rock Bolting Rig Epiroc Mining Equipment Underground Machinery Heavy Machinery

The Epiroc Boltec M is a fully mechanized rock bolting rig for bolt lengths from 1.5-3.5 m, effective in roof heights up to 9.5 meters. Its optimized bolting unit has a reduced overall feed length of 100 mm compared to earlier designs, giving potential for reduced drive sizes while retaining the same bolt lengths. The rock drill is optimized for bolt hole drilling with options of COP RR11 and, for larger hole diameters required by some friction bolt types, the optional COP RR14. The Boltec M shares a common four-wheel drive articulated carrier design with its Simba M/E and Boomer M/E stablemates, giving easy maintenance through an open service architecture. Mechanized bolting removes the operator from potentially dangerous areas of unsupported ground, with all drilling and bolt installation controlled from the operator station under a FOPS certified canopy or optional ROPS and FOPS certified air conditioned cabin. The machine is also available as the Boltec M Battery, an electric-drive version for zero-emission underground operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about the Epiroc Boltec M rock bolting rig specification and features, and similar equipment.

Why choose an Epiroc Boltec M for underground mining?

The Boltec M mechanizes rock bolting for bolt lengths from 1.5-3.5 m and roof heights up to 9.5 m, keeping operators away from unsupported ground while improving installation consistency.

What bolt types can the Boltec M install?

The rig supports Swellex, Split-set, mechanical anchor bolts, rebar with resin or cement systems, self drilling anchor bolts and hollow bar bolts, depending on configuration.

What is the difference between the Boltec M and Boltec M Battery?

The standard Boltec M runs on a Deutz diesel engine, while the Boltec M Battery uses a 700 V battery pack and electric traction motor for zero-emission underground operation.

How does mechanized bolting improve installation quality?

Mechanized bolting on the Boltec M records data such as bolt angles, spacing, grout ratios and installation pressures, giving much higher consistency than manual or semi-mechanized methods.

What rock drills are available on the Boltec M?

The standard rock drill is the COP RR11, optimized for bolt hole drilling; the COP RR14 is available as an option for larger hole diameters needed by some friction bolt types.

What maintenance does the Boltec M require?

The Boltec M shares its four-wheel drive carrier design with the Simba M/E and Boomer M/E, giving an open service architecture for easier day-to-day maintenance.

Is a cabin available for the operator?

Yes, in addition to the standard FOPS certified canopy, an optional ROPS and FOPS certified air conditioned cabin is available for operator comfort in extreme temperatures or dusty conditions.

Can the Boltec M handle mesh installation?

Yes, an optional mesh handling arm — including welded screen mesh or MESHA rolled mesh handling arm variants — can be fitted for combined bolting and mesh work.

What is the turning radius of the Boltec M?

The Boltec M has an outer turning radius of 7100 mm and an inner turning radius of 4550 mm, supported by an articulated ±40° steering angle.

What service support does Epiroc provide?

Epiroc offers a comprehensive service solution combining genuine parts and certified technicians, focused on safety, productivity and reliability throughout the equipment's lifetime.
